Group Management Team

John Giddens

JOHN GIDDENS, Founder & Chief Executive

John founded Hallin Marine in Singapore in 1998 and has been responsible for managing the growth of the company through its 11 year history. He became Chief Executive of the expanding Hallin group in 2003, and oversaw Hallin's floatation on the AIM market in April 2005 and sale to Superior Energy in 2010.
John originally graduated from Britannia Royal Navy College and spent 11 years with the Royal Navy as a Mine Warfare and Clearance Diving Officer, qualified in specialist underwater operations. He served in Hong Kong, Gulf of Suez and Northern Ireland, and as a Diving Training Officer at the Navy School of Operations. For his last three years in the Royal Navy John served as Diving Officer on board the DP diving vessel HMS Challenger, helping develop new equipment and techniques. 
John then joined international diving contractor Fraser Diving, who specialized in portable saturation diving systems and other manned subsea intervention techniques. He worked in operations and business development in Brunei, Saudi Arabia and Dubai, and, in 1995, set up and ran a new business for the company in Vietnam before being appointed Fraser's general manager for South East Asia operations two years later.
John is a qualified saturation diver, supervisor and instructor and a member of a number of professional bodies, including the Society for Underwater Technology, and Member of the Institute of Explosive Engineers.

TONY PREST, Finance Director

A chartered accountant, Tony joined the board of Hallin as a non-executive director in June 2005, moving to work as Hallin's first full time executive Finance Director on 1st October 2007.
Previously, Tony was Group Finance Director of Azzurri Technology, a pan-European specialist electronics component distributor. Prior to that Tony acted as Finance Director of 4-Sight plc, a UK-based communications software group with interests in Europe and the USA, and also served as European finance director of US owned networking company, WAM!NET.
Tony's background is working in international businesses with responsibility for strategic financial planning, raising both equity and debt finance, and merger and acquisition activities. He qualified as a chartered accountant in London and then moved to Southampton with KPMG where he had responsibility for a general practice group.
Tony also has a non-executive involvement in three early stage technology-based companies.

JON ATTENBURROW, Chief Operations Officer

Jon gained his engineering degree at Aberdeen University where he also trained as a pilot with the University Air Squadron. Training as a commercial diver in Scotland and France, he worked as a diver in the UK and Hong Kong before joining the Singapore based offshore commercial diving company Fraser Diving as a saturation diver. Jon joined HMSI in November 1999, responsible initially for diving operations and subsea project management and was promoted to General Manager in 2002. He transferred to the East Division in 2003 and appointed Director in 2004 and attained his MBA the same year following study at Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Primarily responsible for business development, bringing in many new projects and clients for that company, liasing with the East Division's existing and potential customers thereby establishing the opportunities of future contracts. Jon attended Harvard Business School in 2009 and took up his current role at the end of the same year.

John Payne

JOHN PAYNE, Group Business Development Director

John responsibilities include mergers and acquisitions as well as developing the groups' capabilities and growth plan as a global subsea services contractor. He is
into the group.
John is a qualified Master Mariner with over 25 years Subsea and Marine experience.
Since coming ashore in 1999 and prior to joining Hallin, John has held senior roles in general management, service delivery and is a chartered director, with experience of developing profitable business growth in excess of 400 million dollars and managing joint ventures in Asia and USA.
John sits on Hallin's main board.


Graham Cooper

GRAHAM COOPER, Group Commercial Director,

Graham had extensive experience as a commercial air and saturation diver, project manager, general manager and commercial and contracts manager for a number of leading subsea companies, working in the Middle East and Asia, and had received his MBA prior to joining Hallin in 2004.
Initially Graham was the Company's Singapore based commercial manager and was promoted in 2006 to Commercial Director of Easter Division, and, more recently, to the same role for the whole group. His responsibilities include the tendering process and contractual negotiations at the front end of marine and subsea projects and contracts.


Lily Lee

LILY LEE, Director of Administration

Lily was general manager of Technilink in Singapore for two years, prior to which she performed a similar function to her present role for Fraser Diving.
Lily also held senior positions for Fraser Diving in Vietnam and in Dubai. Before joining Fraser Diving she worked for a number of companies related to the oil and gas industry in her native Brunei.
She is responsible for the personnel aspects of the Group, ensuring the right quality and quantity of divers, supervisors and back up staff is available in the right part of the world at the right time.
As the company's administration director Lily is responsible, along with her team, for ensuring the efficient and smooth running of the group's growing administration .


Edwin Poo

EDWIN POO, Group Financial Controller

Edwin joined Hallin in 2006  and his responsibilities include the consolidation of group financial accounts and the preparation of management reports to the board.
Previously he headed the accounts department of an American ship management company, reporting to numerous ship owners in the U.S., Japan, China, Greece and Singapore. After earning his accountancy degree, Edwin worked for a concert promoter, taking care of all its accounting needs and providing backstage support on concert days.




Divisional Managing Directors

MIKE ARNOLD, Main Board Director & Managing Director Western Division

Mike is a veteran of the subsea intervention industry and has extensive experience in the construction, development, operation and marketing of Remote Operated Vehicles (ROVs). He founded Rovtech Ltd in 1991 and built the company into a major independent ROV services contractor with a turnover of £23million before leaving the business in 2004.
Since 2004 Mike has worked as an international consultant within the subsea intervention market. Mike started West Division for Hallin and has successfully grown it into one of the compnay's driving forces. Initially it was focussed on ROVs but now operates its own vessels and saturantion diving teams. Mike has also oversawn the growth of ROVs across the Group.

Rik

RIK ZWINKELS, Managing Director East Division

Rik was appointed to run Hallin's largest division at the start of 2010, having proved himself over two years as the Singapore-based projects director for the division.

Dutch born Rik is a qualified engineer has extensive experience in the offshore construction industry and marine operations in both the Far East and Europe. He has worked for Heerema Marine Contractors, both in onshore installation and project engineering and offshore project execution with semi-submersible and mono-hull crane vessels. With SMIT, Rik gained experience in project tendering, sales, marketing and execution of heavy lift projects and commercial management for the terminals division in Asia. Most recently, before joining Hallin, Rik was employed by Vroon Offshore Services and was responsible for chartering and operations of its offshore fleet of vessels.


Andy Doggett

ANDY DOGGETT, Managing Director Prospect

Andy took over the MD's role at Prospect in 2009, joining from Ashtead Technology where he was head of its global offshore operation, having made that business the worldwide market leader. With 26 years experience in the offshore oil and gas industry, and having worked for a number of major subsea contracting and service companies, Andy was the ideal choice to lead Prospect forward and combine its outstanding engineering design skills with the capabilities of the Hallin group.

Andy served in the Royal Engineers, qualifying in combat engineering and as a Royal Engineer's diver. He has worked and/or managed offshore ROV and survey projects in the U.S., the North Sea, Asia,  Australia, the UK and the Netherlands. Joining Ashtead Technology in 1995 as divisional director of the Singapore operation, Andy developed the business into the dominant player in South East Asia before transferring to the UK as managing director of ATR Aberdeen and, in 2005, taking charge of Ashtead’s global offshore operation. Andy is a member of the Society for Underwater Engineering.

 


AndrewThrelfall

ANDREW THRELFALL, Managing Director Manufacturing Division

Andrew joined Hallin in January 2008 to head up the newly formed Manufacturing Division and become the Managing Director of the Singapore based companies - Hallin Engineering Pte Ltd and HM2 Pte Ltd. He joined after some 16 years in the marine support industry, working with several of the leading offshore support companies around the globe.
Andrew's experience has an emphasis on offshore support vessels working in both exploration and production phases which included the provision of diving and ROV services.
The roles in his career have encompassed business development, contract and project management. He has worked in the UK, Africa, Middle East and Asia Pacific regions. Prior to joining Hallin, Andrew worked for OIL, Ocean Group and Lamnalco.
He is a Member of the Chartered Institute of Marketing and is married with children.


Phil Chamberlain

PHIL CHAMBERLAIN, Manging Director Marine Division

Phil joined the Hallin team in 2009 and is the company's first Marine Division managing director and is ultimately responsible for the company's growing fleet of vessels. Kiwi Phil has 25 years of operations and project management experience in the marine industry. His career in the Royal New Zealand Navy culminated with the title of director of engineering.

Phil was responsible for business development for the commercial specialist ship provision business of P&O Maritime Services, which operates in excess of 600 vessels in the offshore, cargo, defence and port services areas. Previously Phil was involved in ship construction and design for Australasian giant Tenix Marine, working closely with Lloyds Register to ensure compliance for three classes of vessels. Phil obtained his Masters degree in business administration from University of Southern Queensland, Australia, and the former water polo player is a qualified surf life-saver.




Divisional Senior Management

Darren Morgan

DARREN MORGAN, Commercial Director, Hallin Eastern Division

Darren joined Hallin Marine in January 2009 as the Country Manager for Indonesia and was promoted to Commercial Director for East Division at the end of that year. A Chartered Engineer, Darren graduated from Cranfield University with a degree in subsea engineering. He later completed an MBA at Warwick.

Darren gained considerable experience working as project engineer for the French Comex Group, carrying out ROV projects in the nuclear industry. He joined Stolt Offshore, where he was involved in both winning and executing deepwater oil & gas construction projects offshore Africa. Darren was the project and offshore manager for a deep-sea salvage operation and was the operations lead for a mining company which successfully located several subsea copper rich sites in PNG and Tonga.

IAN HUGGINS, Business Development Director, Hallin East Division

Ian is a marketing professional with experience from the 'bottom up' of the offshore industry. A former Royal Marine Commando, he served in various commando units and later in his career was a member of the Royal Marine shooting team, along the way coaching UK royalty in firearms training!

In the offshore world Ian began as a pilot of remote operated vehicles before moving into a client representative role for a major oil and gas company.  Joining Hallin in 2007, Ian managed the Houston office for operations in the Gulf of Mexico and then transferred to Singapore to take on the role of ROV and survey operations manager. He was then promoted to the business development role for the East Division. Ian was voted onto the prestigious industry IMCA committee as the Asia Pacific Representative for the remote systems and ROV division by his peers in 2008. Ian is also part way through his Global MBA with the University of Lancaster.


Remus

REMUS LIM TIEN POH, Finance Director of Hallin Eastern Division

Remus qualified in Singapore in 1995 ultimately becoming a Member of the Institute of Certified Public Accountants. Before studying accountancy Remus spent two and a half years in the Singapore Army as an artillery officer. Remus was the regional accountant for Fraser Diving head office in Singapore for two and a half years, leaving in 1999 to join Interlocal Exim Pte Ltd.
As head accountant at Interlocal Exim Pte Ltd he had the financial responsibilities for the group and its 10 subsidiaries and associates, reporting directly to the board. Remus was responsible for arranging that group's complex banking and trading facilities.
He joined the Group in April 2003 and is currently Finance Director for the Eastern Division.

MARK WOOD, Technical Director, Hallin West Division

Mark joined Hallin's UK company at its formation as chief operations officer and has been instrumental in the division's dramatic growth and was promoted to Technical Director in May 2009. Before joining Hallin, Mark worked for ROV operator Rovtech in both the UK and Singapore with Hallin's West Division's managing director, Mike Arnold.

MARK CORNEY, Finance Director, Hallin West Division

Mark has travelled the world working as a company accountant in the oil industry and counts Moscow; Baku, Azerbaijan; Stavanger; and Jakarta as former homes before settling in Aberdeen with Hallin. He joined the Company in 2007 as the financial controller of West Division and has previously spent most of his career with industry services giant Schlumberger.

JONATHAN D'ARCY, Operations Director of Prospect

Jonathan is a chartered engineer and graduate of the University of Nottingham, where he studied civil engineering, and has held a number of senior positions with industry key players including: AMEC; DnV; and, most notably, Houlder, where he held the position of Regional Technical Manager.
Jonathan has been instrumental in the planning and development of Prospect's international ambitions and is now its operations director.

IVAR IVERSEN, Business Development Director of Prospect

Norwegian-born Ivar is a graduate in Civil Engineering from Imperial College, London and began his career in the Industrial and Offshore Engineering division of consultants Arup. Ivar was seconded to the Max-Planck Institute in Munich where he spent two years in the European fusion energy programme NET.
Upon his return to Aberdeen, he joined Matthew Hall Engineering to work on Shell's Brent Field Redevelopment, still focussed on numerical methods in structural integrity. In 1997 he founded and led Amec's Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) team. In 1999 he founded Prospect as an independent provider of computational mechanics services and is its technical director

MATT STRAW, Business Director of Prospect

Matt Straw is an engineering graduate of The University of Nottingham where he also gained a Masters and PhD researching computational fluid dynamics (CFD) techniques in atmospheric fluid mechanics from the School of Civil Engineering. He started his career with ABB's power generation division, designing low emission combustion systems and then moved into engineering consultancy, coordinating Fluent Europe's CFD consultancy activities,
Matt joined the board of directors in 2005, responsible for business development and, following acquisition by Hallin in 2008, became Prospect's UK business director.

ALISTAIR GILL, Technical Director of Prospect

Having graduated from the University of Glasgow with a Mechanical Engineering degree, Alistair spent the early part of his career in the defence sector, working on projects such as Eurofighter Typhoon. In 1998 Alistair joined Amec's Advanced Engineering Services department. Prospect invited him to take up the position of Operations Director in the spring of 2002.
In July 2006 Alistair moved to Houston, Texas, to head up Prospect Flow Solutions Inc as its President.
